Are there foods known to cause cancer?

There are no known individual foods that are carcinogenic. Some chemicals, pesticides, and food additives, however, have been identified as potentially hazardous. The FDA in (US) BFAD in (Philippines) enforces strict controls with these agents. Higher associations of esophageal and gastric cancers occurs in areas where large amounts of salt-cured, smoked, and nitrite-cured foods are consumed. High salt and nitrate intake are considered risk factors for these cancers but little is known about the mechanisms by which they may cause cancer
