Question: Define domestic violence?

Domestic violence, in a broad sense, refers to all violence occurring within a family unit. By this definition, partner abuse, child abuse, and elder abuse are subsets of domestic violence. Domestic violence is the term most commonly used to refer to the victimization of one partner by his or her intimate partner or partners. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a more specific term. IPV includes physical acts, such as battering and sexual assault, and nonphysical acts, such as emotional abuse, economic abuse, threats to harm children and property, and prevention of access to health care or prenatal care. Most battered women state that the nonphysical abuse is more humiliating and distressing to them than physical beatings.
