Question: Are Bartholin’s duct cysts infectious?
Answer:
Most Bartholin’s duct cysts are sterile; the cyst is filled only with the mucinous material produced by the gland. If the cyst contains purulent material, it is termed a Bartholin’s abscess. These infections are usually polymicrobial. Neisseria gonorrhoeae can sometimes be isolated.
