Health Questions and Answers

Question: State some of the reasons why physicians choose not to inquire about Intimate partner violence (IPV).

Answer:

The most commonly cited reason is lack of time. Health care providers believe that this issue is too time-consuming to deal with, especially in a busy Emergency Clinic. Other reasons include the belief that it is none of the physician’s business, the belief that women would tell” if they wanted to, the belief that there is nothing that can be done, the belief that the woman deserved the abuse, and the belief that a woman could just leave the situation if she wanted to.
