Health Questions and Answers

What is the difference between store-and-forward and real-time technology?

Store-and-forward means that data are transmitted to a Web site and then retrieved and analyzed at the viewer’s convenience. For example, an image of an abnormal larynx would be sent by a referring provider to a consultant’s Web site. The consultant would review the image and clinical data within a reasonable time and then e-mail an opinion back to the inquiring provider.
