Question: Why is IPV a problem affecting all of society and not just women?

Intimate partner violence (IPV) affects men, women, and children. Nearly 50% of homeless women and children are fleeing from battering situations. In the United States, police spend one third of their time responding to partner violence calls, which result in 40,000 reported physician visits per year (although total visits are much higher). IPV costs society $5 to $10 billion per year for health care costs, property damage, investigation, protective services, lost time from work, and criminal justice proceedings.
